Shé:kon
We are Ionkwahronkha’onhátie’ “we are becoming fluent,” a grassroots community-based collective who support adult Kanien’kéha language learners currently approaching or at the Advanced level of speaking proficiency or higher (ACTFL, 2012).
We co-create spaces in the community where self-directed, motivated adult Kanien’kéha language learners and speakers can actively engage and invest in their fluency on an individual, family, and community level.
Onkwehonwehnéha Proficiency Development
We develop proficiency with an intensive summer immersion learning experience and independent study.
Community Engagement & Networking
Our social media, workshops, and gatherings create spaces for the community to share and speak Kanien’keham in every day settings, building connection and language growth.
Language Documentation
We document and share Kanien’keha through radio shows, video interviews with native speakers, and a family dialect project that captures stories and knowledge. All content is available to listen and learn on Soundcloud.
